Curating a professional zoom background can be a great way to improve your online presence for work calls, client meetings, social content and online videos. These are some of my favorite items for tabletop dresser styling that works well in a bedroom or home office! For a beautiful, well-lit zoom background, having a wall 3-6 feet behind you helps the background be bright on screen. If you have an entire room behind you, turning on all the lights overhead can help, taking care to tilt the camera to not show any of the lights directly on screen to avoid backlighting. If a thin dresser doesn’t fit well behind you, then key items to have would be a large piece of artwork and a plant to style a simple, thoughtful vignette — if a plug-in sconce or decorative accent chair is possible, that would be my second choice for a few more stylish details!
Raising your laptop camera up to eye level and having soft warm light shining on your face will be the most flattering, either from a filtered window in front of you or using a zoom ring light with multiple warm settings. Dark clothing tends to lighten up the camera on zoom, so if wearing black is your go-to like me, you’re in luck!
